Film Frame Shippers for Wafers Mounted on Tape
A film frame shipper protects a wafer that is mounted on dicing tape in a wafer frame during transport and storage between dicing, assembly and test. ePAK offers single flex frame shippers, vertical multi-shippers and horizontal coin-stack frame canisters, together with the metal and plastic wafer frames they carry.
A film frame shipper, also called a frame shipper, film frame carrier or flex frame wafer shipper, holds one or more taped wafers by the frame, so the wafer and the singulated die are not loaded directly. The frame outline defines the fit: ePAK lists each shipper by flat-to-flat dimension and, where applicable, by DISCO DTF or K&S outline, and the shipper is selected by frame order code rather than by wafer diameter alone.
Single flex frame shippers carry one framed wafer each. They are available in clamshell (C) and stacked-tray (T) styles, in conductive, anti-static coated or clear PS, with published order codes for 150mm, 200mm, 300mm and 450mm wafers. The 12-inch (300mm) single shippers are vacuum-formed for 380mm flat-to-flat frames.
Flex frame multi-shippers, listed by ePAK as flex frame shipping boxes and often called wafer frame boxes, hold frames vertically. The 6-inch and 8-inch vertical flex frame wafer shippers hold 25 frames, the 12-inch version 13 frames. Multi-shippers are built in conductive PP, natural PP or, for selected 200mm versions, anti-static impregnated clear PP. Where frame thickness matters, versions are listed separately for metal and plastic frames. A metal frame shipper for 300mm uses a 1.5mm spring for 1.52mm metal frames; the plastic frame version uses a 3.5mm spring for 3.5mm plastic frames. In the 300mm multi-shipper, a comb and spring design keeps each frame in its slot during transit.
Flex frame canisters ship framed wafers horizontally in a coin stack. They are made of conductive PP, with an internal height of 40mm for 6-inch wafers, 81mm or 48mm for 8-inch wafers, and 109mm (standard) or 33mm (low capacity) for 12-inch wafers. The 48mm version for 200mm wafers uses the reduced-movement features of the eLX™ canister. Separators from the wafer interface materials range go between the frames, with cushion disks at the top and bottom of the stack. overPAK™ outer packaging is listed for selected shippers and canisters.
ePAK also supplies the wafer film frames themselves: reusable metal film frames in 410/420-series stainless steel, and single-use plastic wafer frames for one-way shipments.
